Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something
Procrastination can strike at any time, leaving us unable to do things that need to be done.
And while it's understandable to postpone stuff we have no desire to do, sometimes procrastination can spread to the things we enjoy doing.
But let's make it clear, procrastination is not laziness and most of the time it's a result of Analysis paralysis ("The state of over-analyzing (or over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken").
In this post I will be showing top 5 steps to beat procrastination and get things done.
1. Define a clear purpose
It is much easier to motivate yourself when you know the reason why you doing something and in what way it will benefit you, whether it be to start exercising or to work on your startup.
Once you define a clear purpose it will be much easier to motivate yourself.
2. Write a ToDo list
Split your goal into smaller (daily) tasks and write them down. And Optionally you can write a reward for each completed task, whether it be watch your favourite TV show or eat your favourite food.
Also make the first task the smallest one, so after completing it you would become excited for the next one.
For the rest of the tasks, try to spread the workload evenly.
The key is to have something done each day, even if it's just a small amount of work, it will bring you closer to the goal.
3. Do not focus on the final goal
After you wrote a ToDo list, try not to think about the final result for a while and just focus on completing the daily tasks.
This way you will feel accomplished at the end of the day, without being overhelmed by the thoughts of the final goal.
4. Keep going
Starting something is half of the way but finishing is as important.
On the way to your goal you may encounter a roadblocks or even worse, a loss of motivation.
The main thing in this situation is to keep going, despite what your mind tells you, especially if you have never reached a self-assigned goal before, just keep going for the sake of knowing what it's like to finish something.
If for some miraculous reason you have reached your goal, best believe you are the chosen one.
You are now ready to set an even bigger goals and achieve them!
